Miki Shiomoto
Based in Karachi since 2021, Miki Shiomoto is a designer and editor with a background in aesthetics and visual design. She studied Aesthetics and Art History at Kyoto University and Visual Design at Kuwasawa Design School. Her early career focused on publishing, where she worked as an editor in Japan and Vietnam, involved in planning, editing, interviews, and editorial design. Following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, she co-founded an NPO supporting women in rural areas, where she led media projects and developed handicraft initiatives rooted in traditional Japanese textiles. Her relocation to Pakistan deepened her fascination with the historical connections between the Silk Road and Japan. Inspired by motifs from Turkey, Persia, and the subcontinent, she completed a diploma course at VM-CTA in Karachi after attending several short programs. Her work is strongly influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, and she aspires to create textile, tile, and kimono patterns that weave cultural heritage into contemporary design.
